Take a Bow, Ye Venues’ People and Planners!

We have so much to be grateful for when those we work with are so committed and exceptional. Laura sends these kudos from the Labour Day Weekend Wedding:  Bravo to the staff at St. Ann’s Academy!  They really do a great job of ensuring that wedding ceremonies unfold smoothly.  Our September 6th engagement included some extra details that needed to be coordinated with the music selections.  It all worked out perfectly.” This summer we have also really had some fantastic support from the folks at Hatley Castle/Royal Roads, Villa Marco Polo, Sooke Harbour House, Barb at French Kiss Events and Nicole at Details Special Event Planning and Decor.

Bouquets in Sooke

Both the past 2 weekends have taken us to Sooke for Weddings! From the couple married at Sooke Harbour House on the 22nd of August we just received a lovely letter saying we ‘created the perfect ambiance’ for their wedding which we absolutely  love hearing. And then this past  weekend, between the ceremony and the cocktail music at the Best Western Prestige Resort, the Mother-of the-Bride gave me a nice hug and such a warm, heartfelt thank you! Your happiness is very rewarding to us!

All You Need Is Love

Busy writing a new arrangement for our Trio—’In My Life’ by the “Fab Four”—so well suited to flute, violin and cello in combination. Also adding some custom touches to ‘All You Need is Love’  for next week’s Wedding (Hatley Castle here we come!)

Villa Marco Polo

Just played at a beautiful, beautiful wedding at Villa Marco Polo last Saturday afternoon. So many charming and lovely touches-a tent that had a clear view of the sky with furniture grouped cosily for conversation and comfort to make an outdoor ‘living room’ (with a view to the sky!) for the enjoyment of the assembled guests of Bride and Groom Karley and Timon, all pulled together for celebration with perfect aplomb by Barb at French Kiss Events. We had some of the younger guests and members of the wedding party come over after the ceremony to check out our instruments and say hello! We love our work…

Fathers

We played for a wedding in late May in a stunningly beautiful garden in Deep Cove. Amazingly, the acoustics were excellent on this steeply sloped waterfront property: we could hear the words of the ceremony unfolding down by the ocean, and the sound of our instruments was carried down to them from our perch way above. My most memorable moment? I loved that the fathers of both the bride and groom had important speaking roles during the ceremony. It’s something I haven’t seen before – lovely.

Moments

There is no wedding that is not beautiful, and most are beautiful in many, many ways. From the perspective of a musician who has played at hundreds of ceremonies and receptions, it’s impossible to remember all the special details that I’ve enjoyed. However, as I pack up my cello at the end of any wedding, I find there is usually one memory that stays with me, and comes to mind again later. It might be something as simple as the light of the setting sun falling on the bride’s face. Or it might be hilarious, like the two purse-sized dogs, wearing tiny frilly dresses, who acted as ring-bearers while we played very fast and lively music.

This blog is the beginning of a plan to take note of these “most-memorable moments” and share them.

June 25, Hatley Castle, Italian Garden
After our very cool and disappointing spring weather, we finally had a lovely warm day. The garden was loaded with white and fuchsia peonies, which were fully in bloom. I’m still enjoying the memory of the beautiful smell of peonies in the air throughout our time there.

Our most important audience!

Another highlight this summer:  we played for Canada’s Governor-General, Michaelle Jean, during celebrations of the Canadian Navy’s 100th Anniversary at CFB Esquimalt!  There were lots of other noteables in the crowd…it was hard to keep our eyes on our music!
